To market, to market

Saturday I went to Seomun market. It was overwhelming. It is an intricate maze of everything, everywhere, as far as the eye can see. Hat shops, string shops, rope shops, tarp shops, sock shops, crochet shops, Hello Kitty shops, bag shops, shirt shops, pant shops, trinket shops, dish shops, cheap shops, big shops, little shops, eel shops, fish shops, bean shops, bedspread shops, bead shops, mannequin shops, and on and on.

One area was filled with cages and cages of animals. There were gigantic rabbits, ducks, and chickens awaiting the slaughter, and subsequent gutting, right before your eyes. Blood flowed freely in back rooms, and gloved workers tore out organs right in front of me. Much to my chagrin, there were also puppies and a few cages of kittens. I can only hope it was a meat/pet shop.

It was absolutely fascinating. I’ll probably spend lots of time there just looking.
