This Week in Abilene...Stargirl vs. Toxic Megacolon

- Dad got mustard on his beard, right under his bottom lip in the white part, and even after vigorous wiping, it was still stained yellow. I looked at it the entire dinner time. It reminded me of Tasty Pete's sloppy beard.

- Mom was talking about pop stars at dinner one evening, and for some reason she started talking about Beyonce, only she pronounced it "bee-yon-ss." It. was. so. funny. Later that evening, she tried to teach me how to properly pronounce the ladies name "Dawn." As it turns out, I cannot do it, and I wage you Texas kids can't either.

- During the course of my studies I stumbled upon www.sewerhistory.org. It's weirdly interesting and engrossing. Also in the course of my studies I found out about a condition/disease called "Toxic Megacolon." I hope I don't get it.

- Continuing on this train of thought, I went to see Lawrence of Arabia with mom and dad at the Paramount, during the course of which I warred against that very nemisis, Toxic Megacolon, in an historic bathroom. But here's the truth about that movie: I don't get it.

- Lastly, I have found out about a wonderful new activity. Once a month, a group of people gather at Fort Griffith State Park to star watch. Some people have enormous telescopes that they bring out and share. I cannot wait until next month because there is a supernova happening! I've been thinking about buying a good telescope kit but decided I shouldn't spend money, but just today I received an unexpected, enormous check from the city of Austin (I really don't know what it's for), so I might just do it.   Dad got really excited when I asked if he'd help me build it. In preparation for my life as a stargirl, I've just returned from checking out several books at the library on astronomy, though I honestly don't expect my skills to advance beyond being able to identify the Big Dipper.

Space is just amazing.
